Columbus Circle

All official distances in New York are measured from Columbus Circle, an intersection in the middle of Manhattan that was named after Christopher Columbus. The Columbus Circle neighborhood is the area a few blocks from the circle in all directions, starting from the intersection of Central Park West, Central Park South, and Eighth Avenue. Columbus Circle is noted for being a transportation hub and a shopping destination. This is the site of the Time Warner Center, the Museum for Arts and Design, and an excellent array of restaurants and fine dining such as Per Se.
