Chinatown and Little Italy are surrounded by the Lower East Side and Tribeca. Chinatown is one of the oldest Chinese ethnic enclaves and one of the largest Chinese neighborhoods in the world outside China. It has evolved from being a mainly Cantonese-speaking neighborhood to a mainly Mandarin-speaking one. Little Italy, at the northern point, previously had a large Italian-American population. There has been a lot of movement in the neighborhoods, but the famous San Gennaro festival remains, along with a strip of Italian restaurants and shops.
