Bushwick is in the northern part of Brooklyn on the western edge of Queens. Its official boundaries are Ridgewood to the northeast, Williamsburg to the northwest, East New York to the southeast, and Brownsville and Bedford-Stuyvesant to the south. Its original 17th-century name was Boswijck, meaning “little town in the woods.” Today Bushwick offers an interesting mix of artist and cultural enclaves, while still emanating a suburban atmosphere.
